Guidelines for Multi Media Research Presentations

Guidelines for Research project and multi media presentation    
Each student will deliver a 8 - 10 minute multi media research presentation to the class. The purpose of the assignement is to educate the class of the contributions the artist/designer has made, and puts each student in the role of educator. 

The lectures will include strong visuals and informative facts about the artist/designer Following there will will be a short Q&A with the class as a whole.  

Prior to student presentations, the digital file needs to be sent to me electronically one day prior to the student presentation. 

Presentation Checklist > 8 items:
  1. _________         Presentations are informative including brief bio, slides of works and how the work fits into the “cultural moment,” including how it is appropriate to our class.  It is not a report on the artist.
  1. _________         Include factual information throughout, this includes all details on each slide: title of work in italics, date of work, art historical style it fits into, dimensions, materials where the work was exhibited or may be found.  Slides should be arranged chronologically throughout the presentation.
  1. —————        Discuss the time period the work has been created in and where the artist/designer is in their own careers.
  1. __________        Discuss the artist/designer’s intentions and influences, including cultural significance.
  1. —————        Discuss what critics, historians, research articles and other publications have said about the work.  Add minimum of one quote from these sources.
  1. __________       Link the relevancy of the artist/designer’s work to our class projects.
  1. __________       Rehearse ! Presentations should be no more than ten minutes followed by a Q & A from the class.
  1. __________       All slides in presentation should be free of spelling / grammatical errors.  grammarly.com

Suggested Slide Organization*
i. 1st page, name of the artist, birth & death dates, nationality, an image of them
ii. Body of presentation includes the following:     
  • brief bio
  • bulleted points of factual information
  • excellent image reproductions distributed throughout the presentation (minimum of 3 no more than 7)
iii. Last slide: works cited bibliography and all image URLs.

Did the presenter discuss the designers/period’s influences and intentions? Did the presenter include any direct quotes from the artist/designer?





Did the presenter discuss what any critics and historians have to say about the work? Including cited quotations?




Did the presenter discuss any social implications in the artist’s/designer’s lifetime?





Was research thoroughly presented?





Did the presenter have the sufficient # of images properly labeled and in chronological order? Was all the information factual (dates of work, scale, materials, artistic style, exhibition location if available, etc.)





Did the presenter contain 8 minutes worth of valuable facts?





Overall, was the presentation well organized?





Did the presenter effectively deliver the presentation - beyond information contained on slides?





Did the presenter link the artist/designer’s work to projects the class has engaged in?




Did the presentation contain all the criteria of the assignment?

Paul Cezanne French  1839 - 1906 Paul Cézanne was a French artist and  Post-Impressionist painter  whose work was the foundation for transitioning from a 19th-century conception of artistic endeavor to a new and radically different way of looking at subject matter towards the 20th century.  His work eventually leads the way towards the beginning of breaking up space into smaller parts and cubes.    Egon Scheile Austrian 1980 - 1918 Schiele was a protégé of Gustav Klimt.  Schiele was a major figurative painter of the early 20th century.
